Central Asian Microfinance Fair 2011, Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan
Central Asian Microfinance Fair 2011, was held on 7th & 8th of July in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
The conference had an outstanding success and became the event of the year for the microfinance sector in Central Asia. During the two days delegates and speakers had an opportunity to discuss the most up-to-date topics on the future of microfinance sector development in Central Asian region.
The President of Kyrgyz Republic, H.E. Rosa Otunbayeva opened the conference with the overview of the microfinance sector in Kyrgyzstan. Her excellence made a very inspiring presentation that gave impetus to the further discussions during these two days.
European asset management companies shared their concerns about the possible ways of tackling the difficulties that the microfinance sector is currently facing in the region. Central Asian Microfinance companies managed to prove sustainability of the sector by successfully overcoming the aftermath of the financial downturn. The social role of microfinance sector is especially obvious after the civil unrests in Kyrgyzstan last year.
In the end of the second day of the conference General Manager of Kyrgyz MFI named Bai-Tushum summarised the main topics of the conference in a resolution, that was prepared by top management of Kyrgyz MFIs and Association of Microfinance Instituions of Kyrgyzstan. This resolution was sent to the office of the President of Kyrgyz Republic for further discussions.
Another outcome of the conference was the contract signed between EBRD and Kyrgyz MFI Bai-Tushum. According to the agreement Bai-Tushum will get a loan of 6 million US dollars in local currency to provide an affordable financing to small businesses in Kyrgyzstan.
