Global Microfinace Forum 2012 conference was organized by Uniglobal in Istanbul on 12th & 13th of April. The conference was a successor of Uniglobal microfinance conference series.
The event brought together top level practitioners from microfinance institutions, international microfinance investment vehicles, development agencies, consultants from almost all the regions, microfinance is being developed at.
We were very lucky to have a very experienced and competent chairman of the conference, a Director at Legal Risk Strategies for Impact Investors. Chairman was simply irreplaceable person at the conference, who took an active role in supporting discussions, managing strategic interactive lunch table, strictly controlling timing of the conference.
We started the conference with looking at the global situation in microfinance industry, analyzing major developments going in the sector. Then we had a very fascinating and inspiring presentation delivered by Sparkassenstiftung für Internationalle Kooperation about savings and insurance products embedded into concept of microfinance. The presentation clearly showed, that these products are not new, they are rather old and have been used by traditional financial sector for a long time. The real matter is creating an enabling environment for these products inclusion into microfinance. Another important conclusion we came to ,during this session, was the need of local funding mobilization in developing countries.
The microfinance products session was followed up by representatives from largest MIVs (microfinance investment vehicles) and their view on the further sector developments. Investors shared with the audience information about the requirements they have for MFIs while making the investment decisions. This session had an extreme importance for invests, as it helps them to build up a roadmap to comply with the major requirements.
In the end of the conference, both speakers and attendees have made a number of strategic decisions about major areas that industry should pay attention to. Uniglobal would like to express it's gratitude to speakers, participants, who took a very active role at the conference. We hope to have a chance to work with all of you in the nearest future.
